How to assign a staff member as the main DSL

In your school’s Provision Map account, you should have a main DSL user that is able to grant other staff members with permission to access safeguarding concerns.

Eventually it may be necessary to make another staff member the main DSL (for example if you are changing role or leaving the school). Please note: you will need to be the current main DSL user in order to do this.

To assign a staff member as the main DSL for your school, mouse over the Admin tab at the top of the page and select School settings from the drop down menu.

Next, either scroll down to the Safeguarding section, or click on the Safeguarding option in the side menu.

You will see a field labelled Designated safeguarding lead (DSL), with your name as the staff member selected to be the DSL.

Click on the field and select the staff member of your choice from the drop down menu.

The selected staff member will now become the new main DSL for your school instead of you.

Granting safeguarding access as the DSL

As the main DSL user for your school, you are able to grant safeguarding access to any staff member.

To do this, mouse over the Admin tab at the top of the page and select Staff details from the drop down menu.

You will be presented with a list of staff members who have been added to your school’s Provision Map account. Scroll across to the right and tick the Access safeguarding concerns checkbox for the staff members of your choice.

The selected staff members will now be able to view safeguarding concerns and run analytical reports on reported concerns.
